RESEARCH GRANTS:

Robert C. Klesges, Ph.D. (PI); (1999-2006). National Institutes of Health (NIH)/National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI).
Decreasing Weight Gain in African American Preadolescent Girls (GEMS)
The major goals of this project are to identify social and behavioral determinants that will form the core of the intervention program and to conduct a 2-year randomized clinical trial comparing interventions to standard care.
Role:  Co-Investigator

Robert Garrison, Ph.D. (PI) (1999-2003); NIH/National Cancer Institute (NCI).
A Randomized Trial to Reduce Sedentary Behavior in the Working Poor
This study is a randomized controlled trial comparing two behavior change models, peer support compared to provider support, in a sample of overweight, sedentary adults. Primary outcomes include change in exercise behavior and fitness at baseline and at 6 month intervals throughout the one-year of active intervention, and following one year of relapse prevention follow up.
Role: Co-investigator

Robert Jeffery, Ph.D. (PI) (2001-2003) NIH/National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke
Innovative Approaches to Disease Prevention through Behavior Change: Cross-Site Analyses of Behavioral Change Interventions
This supplement supports expert consultation on measurement and statistical methods. The purpose of project is to identify and plan cross-site opportunities for collaborative analyses from 15 behavioral change trials funded by NIH as part of the Behavioral Change Consortium.
Role:  Consultant

Russell Glasgow, Ph.D. (PI) (2000-2002) Robert Wood Johnson Foundation
Evaluating and Enhancing the Reach and Dissemination of Health Promotion Interventions: The Behavior Change Consortium
This study investigates methods to facilitate the translation of research findings into practice and to enhance the external validity and sustainability of behavioral science research in collaboration with the Behavior Change Consortium (BCC), a group of 15 NIH grantees investigating methods to improve health risk behaviors.
Role: Co-Investigator

Lisa M. Klesges, Ph.D. (PI) (1999-2001) NIH/National Institute of Child Health and Human Development
Nicotine Replacement and Oxidative Stress in Pregnancy
This project assessed the relative oxidative burden to mother and fetus of isolated nicotine replacement therapy compared to cigarette smoking during pregnancy in a prospective study of smoking cessation in pregnant smokers.

Karen C. Johnson, M.D. (PI) (1999-2001) NIH/National Institute on Drug Abuse
Treating Nicotine Addiction in Pregnancy
